Athlete Impact Fund

The Opportunities Were There. The Resources Were Missing.

Athlete Impact Fund recipient card for Promise Amasiatu, Nigeria, $300

A $300 grant helped Promise process her collegiate documents. Today she studies at Middle Tennessee State University.

“I’ve watched opportunities pass me by—not because I wasn’t fast enough, but because I couldn’t make it to the starting line.”

For Promise Amasiatu, a Nigerian athlete training in Port Harcourt, the challenge was not simply preparing to compete.

It was finding the resources to turn opportunities into reality.

She had the ambition to pursue both athletics and education, but financial constraints made it difficult to follow through when opportunities arose.

Her experience reflects a challenge faced by many talented young Africans: being ready for an opportunity does not always mean having the means to access it.

Through the Athlete Impact Fund, Paragon Sports Development Foundation provided Promise with a $300 grant to help her process the collegiate documents required to pursue an opportunity in the United States.

Today, she is studying at Middle Tennessee State University.

When Talent Is Not the Only Requirement

Promise trained in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, while pursuing her athletic and academic ambitions.

She knew what she wanted. She was passionate about her education and committed to her sporting journey.

But pursuing collegiate opportunities involved practical requirements that came with costs.

Without the necessary financial resources, even a promising opportunity could remain out of reach.

For athletes from financially constrained backgrounds, the pathway to international education can involve expenses that have little to do with their performance on the track.

An athlete may have the ability, the academic ambition, and the willingness to work—but still need help completing the process that connects those qualities to an opportunity.

Promise needed support to take that next step.

A Small Grant. A Significant Step.

The Athlete Impact Fund provided Promise with $300 to help process her collegiate documents.

The grant addressed a specific need in her journey, helping her complete an important part of the process required to pursue her educational and athletic future.

The amount was modest compared with the broader costs associated with international education. But its purpose was clear: remove a practical barrier standing between Promise and an opportunity she was working toward.

This is why targeted funding matters.

Sometimes, an athlete does not need an entire journey financed at once. They need a particular obstacle addressed so they can move to the next stage.

From Port Harcourt to Middle Tennessee

Promise is now studying in the United States at Middle Tennessee State University.

Her journey demonstrates how support directed toward a specific administrative and financial need can help an athlete pursue a wider educational and sporting pathway.

Her story also highlights the relationship between athletics and education.

For Promise, the opportunity was never only about competing. It was also about continuing her education and creating possibilities for her future.

One Life, Many Possibilities

Reflecting on the experience, Promise emphasized that the impact of the Athlete Impact Fund extended beyond her alone.

When an athlete gains access to education and development opportunities, the potential benefits can reach their family and community as well.

Her journey does not suggest that every barrier has disappeared. Rather, it shows what can happen when a specific barrier is addressed and an athlete is able to move forward.

At Paragon, we believe that talented athletes should not have to abandon their ambitions simply because they cannot afford the next step.

Promise’s story is a reminder that opportunity becomes meaningful when athletes can actually access it.

We are proud to have supported one step in Promise’s journey from possibility to opportunity.

Help us make the next opportunity accessible to another athlete.
