From 55.89 to 53.48 seconds: after AIF 1.0, Success receives a further ₦800,000 through AIF 2.0.

At 15, Nigerian 400m athlete Success Onyinyechi Onu became a beneficiary of the first edition of the Athlete Impact Fund (AIF), receiving support that helped her pursue her athletic and educational goals. Now 16, she is building on that progress with renewed determination and another opportunity to grow.

The Beginning: Support That Made a Difference

Before receiving support from AIF 1.0, Success had a personal best of 55.89 seconds in the 400m. Like many young athletes, she had ambitious dreams but faced financial challenges in meeting the demands of training and competition.

She received a grant of ₦1.2 million, distributed at ₦100,000 monthly over twelve months. The support helped cover transportation to training, nutrition, supplements, gym sessions, and competition expenses. PSDF also supported her educational needs, including costs associated with obtaining her high school transcript and registering for her WAEC certificate examination.

Within ten months, Success improved her 400m personal best from 55.89 seconds to 53.48 seconds. This progress strengthened her confidence, discipline, and belief in what she could achieve with the right support and continued hard work.

A New Chapter: AIF 2.0

Success’s journey did not end with the first grant. Determined to build on her progress, she applied for the second edition of the Athlete Impact Fund.

Her improvement caught the attention of an individual who was inspired by her story and chose to invest in her continued development. Through AIF 2.0, Success received an additional ₦800,000 to support her next chapter.

This renewed support represents an important step in her journey as she continues working towards her athletic and educational ambitions.

Looking Ahead

Now 16, Success hopes to continue improving in the 400m, represent Nigeria proudly, and earn a fully funded athletic scholarship at a university in the United States.

Her journey demonstrates why sustained investment in young athletes matters. Support can help athletes meet immediate needs, but it can also strengthen the foundation they need to pursue greater opportunities.

At Paragon Sports Development Foundation, we are proud to support Success as she continues working towards her dreams.

Her progress is worth celebrating, and her journey is far from over.

Through the Athlete Impact Fund, PSDF remains committed to helping young athletes turn potential into progress and progress into opportunity.
